How to Turn Off the Narrator on Xbox One

Have the Narrator stuck on your Xbox One and can’t figure out how to turn it off? This accessibility feature is designed to help people with visual impairments use the console, but if you accidentally turn it on and don’t need it, it can quickly get annoying.

How to Turn Off the Narrator on Xbox One

  1. Press and hold the Xbox button on your controller until it vibrates and you see power options.
  2. Press the Menu button (on the right side of your controller) to turn off the Narrator. This shortcut is likely how you mistakenly enabled the Narrator in the first place.

Alternatively, you can also disable the Narrator through system settings:

  1. Press the Xbox button to open the Guide and scroll over to the gear icon.
  2. Select Settings, then pick the Ease of Access category.
  3. Choose the Narrator panel, then toggle Narrator to off on the leftmost panel.

You can also turn off the Narrator using Kinect voice commands: “Hey Cortana, turn off Narrator” (or “Xbox, turn off Narrator” if you’ve disabled Cortana).

If you use a keyboard with your Xbox, you can press Windows key + Enter to toggle the Narrator.

This feature lets those with disabilities navigate around their Xbox consoles, but it can drive you crazy to hear every move you make around the menu announced loudly. If you ever toggle the Narrator again by mistake, it’s likely because of that quick shortcut. Remember that, as it’s the quickest way to disable the Narrator.
