At the age of 13, Samruay Imkrajai worked her first job in a factory in Ayuthaya, outside of Bangkok. Two years later she had gathered enough money to buy a small long tail boat (hang yao) and moved to Bangkok to work on the Chao Phraya river as a taxi boat.
20 years later, she still drives this same boat and lives on a boat house that she built with her husband who recently passed away.
