Famed fashion designer Virgil Abloh has teamed up with Nike to design a special outfits for the goddess that is Serena Williams for this year’s US Open. Aptly titled ‘The Queen Collection’, the on-court/off-court range features a black ballerina-style dress, a bomber jacket and ‘Queen of Queens’ sneakers.

The Virgil Abloh and Nike The Queen Collection has been especially designed for Serena Williams to wear during the US Open, which takes place later this month. The collection includes a dress for both day and night-time play, a bomber jacket, a bag, the NikeCourt Flare 2 and limited editions of The 10: Nike Air Max 97 and The 10: Nike Blazer Mid SW.

Aiming to “blur the lines of sport and fashion”, according to Abloh, the highlight of the collection is the tennis dresses, which come in black and purple. Featuring a ‘ballerina-esque silhouette’, the dresses draws on Williams’ interest in dance with a tulle skirt which flares out from the waist to allow for easy movement.

The skin-tight upper portion has mismatching arm lengths – one full length, one short – and a flesh-toned section to make it look as if it is off-the-shoulder. The dress is made out of a mesh material to keep Serena cool while playing in the New York heat. Additional details include the word “logo” in capital letters above the Nike tick. “SERENA” is also written on the arms.

The collection also features apparel that the 23-time Grand Slam champion will wear off court. Namely a button-up black jacket, which features diagonal markings across the front and the arms. She’ll also have three pairs of trainers to choose from, including the updated NikeCourt Flare 2, which she first wore in 2016. Abloh has also adapted the Nike Air Max 97 and Nike Blazer Mid SW.

The Nike Serena Williams ‘The Queen Collection’ is set to roll out in selected stores in the US around 27th August when the US Open starts. Head over to the Nike Website to find out more.
