Having failed so miserably to connect the dots with the Basket Case liner and Billie Joe Armstrong from Greenday, I can tell you I’m in a better place to talk about the Divine Palette because who does not know actor and queen of all drag artists, Divine? The inspiration for Ursula The Sea Witch in The Little Mermaid and Hairspray star, it’s a perfect fit for Kat Von D who likes to represent sub-cultures and people who stay true to themselves. The sad thing is that Divine died in 1988 – I can’t believe it was so long ago – but continues to inspire the drag community (and possibly mermaids everywhere).
The colours in this are very strong – you can go 100% black and grey smoky or push some colour buttons with blues, green and golds. I love the Divine brow detail on the mirror.
All the shades have been named for Divine’s most famous performances (on and off screen). The textures are variable – the first shade, Babs, is super-super soft so don’t go digging in there!
From bottom to top: Babs, Hard Magic, Baltimore, Waters, Filthy, Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, Hairspray.
They’re in the same order in the swatch – that black is SO black! It’s a limited edition palette so if you’re feeling the mood for it, you probably need to go sooner rather than later. I can see a lot of looks from this 8 pan palette – mostly an easy wear actually although good luck with the acid green!
I don’t have a UK launch date for this yet (Debenhams) and Kat palettes are easily £30++ which I feel is a lot for these cardboard palettes. However, this one looks pretty special.
